May is here and we have a few things to address: The 2013 membership cards will be here in July (and that will be here
before you know it). We still have a lot of members who have not gotten their 2012 cards yet and a lot of them have many
years vested in the SAL. We don't want to see you lose those years just because you forgot to renew so please come in
the Post and get this done ASAP!
A reminder to all of you who enjoy the game of golf: Get in and sign up for the SAL golf outing. The sign up board
is next to the door as you come into the Post. This has always been a great time and we are hoping to get this filled up as
soon as we can. Its $60 per golfer which includes: golfing; a cart; a sleeve of balls; and dinner/pop/tap beer at the Legion
when the golfing is done. There will be some great raffle prizes too. The date is Sunday June 24 at Tara Hills golf course
with a 7:30 am shotgun start.
If you haven’t made it to the Legion on Monday nights for tacos, you need to put this on your bucket list! Two reasons:
They’re only a buck each and they taste great! The bar has a great happy hour as well so come in and say hello.
I want to thank the 402nd Army MP BN unit for the beautiful shadow box that they gave us recently. It's worth the
trip to the Post to check it out. We helped the unit get home for the holidays and that was their way of thanking us. I’ve
been approached by some of the soldiers from that unit thanking us for what we did. I told them it was the least we could do for what they are doing for our country and that is why we are members of the SAL. The first time I saw the shadow
box it gave me goose bumps and I found out I wasn’t the only one affected this way. In times like these it makes me proud
to say I'm a member of the SAL Squadron #374 and what we do does make a difference! Thanks to everyone from the
402nd Army MP BN unit. God bless you for what you do for our wonderful country.
We will be electing the new officers at the next meeting which is Monday May 7th at 7:00. If you would be interested in running for an officer position this would be your last chance to be nominated before we vote (at the end of the meeting). All officer positions will remain the same unless someone would like to be nominated. Thanks to the officers for all their hard work last year and I’m looking forward to another great year ahead of us. It’s been my pleasure in serving as your SAL Commander and I hope that I have represented our Squadron the best that I can. I can't thank you enough for your support. Please remember this is the month we honor our fallen comrades who have given the ultimate sacrifice in serving our great country. I hope you make the effort to take part in this year’s Memorial Days events; without their sacrifice we would not be where we are now - citizens of the United States Of America; the home of the free because of the Brave!
Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday!
God Bless you all! Curt Jordan - Commander Squadron #374 Sons of the American Legion

There will be a Memorial Day program at three cemeteries on Monday May 28: Mt. Auburn, Pleasant Hill, and
Voss-Mohr. The bus for the Color Guard will leave the Post at 9:00. The Program at the Post Home will be at 11:30.
There was a motion passed at the March General Meeting to allow a onetime change to the constitution. This
change allows the commander to run for a third term. I have been asked to seek re-election for that office. I feel that
with the opening of our new Post Home and all ongoing construction projects (kitchen, outside area, flag poles, etc.) it
would not be in the best interests of the Post to pass these unfinished projects off to another person and expect him/her
to get them completed.
Elections are Wednesday May 16 starting at 7:00 AM. The nominees for officers are on the second page of this
newsletter. (We need volunteers to man the ballot box; please call the Post if you can help)
I’ve seen a lot of different faces in the club lately. Thank you! Keep coming in (bring your friends & neighbors too).
We started a Wii Bowling league on Wednesday night; it’s been a lot of fun from what I’ve heard. We’re also going to
have a Beer Pong tournament on Friday May 18; call Kathy for more info.
A quick update on the Post finances: in the three months that we’ve been open we’ve been in the black.
We’re serving $1 tacos on Mondays, dinner on Thursdays (the menu varies) and this month we’re serving tacos
on Saturday May 5 for Cinco de Mayo!
I would like to thank the 402nd MP BN for the recognition they gave us when we helped bring them home before
they deployed. We will receive a shadow box like the SAL and Auxiliary have but it was still packed away at the time of
the ceremony.
Enjoy your holiday weekend! HOOAH! Greg Petersen

From the First Vice Commander:
You never know what Grandpa brought home from the War until you're cleaning out the basement, so if you have (or know of anyone who has) military items: guns, knives, explosives, etc., and aren't sure what to do with them, please consider donating them to the Post for us to use for display or as a Fund Raiser. We can look at the items and let you know if we're interested. (We really don't want explosives but can advise you how to dispose of them properly and legally.)

Thank you to Concordia High School’s National Honor Society for coming to assist at the last Packing Party. You all were
a real treat! Hope you are able to come again soon.
The Auxiliary and SAL each received an award from the 402nd MP BN. These are must see awards. Each of them
was constructed by supplies from their base camp and is BEAUTIFUL!! It was such an honor to be recognized by them is
such a manner. Many of you may not know we assisted in bringing this unit home to celebrate Christmas before they
were to be deployed to Afghanistan. We sent them care packages while they were there.
May is our election month. Do you have nominations for our Auxiliary officers? PLEASE let us know, or better
yet, come to the meeting to make your nominations (or accept nominations). Our next meeting is Tuesday May 8th at
7:30pm. Please come and make your suggestions ladies.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Sunday June 3rdDarlene Boyden is hosting a Mary Kay Party Day at the club.
She will be holding 3 classes during the day. It’s free to attend. This is also a fundraising event so Darlene will be
donating a portion of sales to the Auxiliary. Seating is limited so please call the bartenders (402.895.1342) or me
(402.660.7028) to reserve a seat for you and your friends. Make a day of it ladies!
Our next Packing Party is scheduled for Saturday May 5th at 5:30pm. We still have troops over in Afghanistan so
please come help support them by packing a box or two. Maybe you would like to donate items or write a note of
encouragement. All is appreciated.
Take care – Stacy |
